About

History:
Gouves animal shelter (NGO) was created 2009. It started with 10 dogs, abandoned military base and one man. Now it has grown to shelter with capacity for 200 dogs, about 10 permanent volunteers and tens of committed short time volunteers, visiting us every year! We give care to injured, abused, scared, lost and abandoned dogs, providing safe and warm place, food and loving human interaction. We are a no-kill shelter, meaning that we don't put down healthy dogs, or the ones that can be treated

We are the official shelter in our area, we work constantly with the municipality to improve stray animal situation, sterilizing strays and educating people, but we don't have any financial help from the government. We rely heavily on donations from the kind people in Europe, who see the value in our work and want to participate also.
We have rescue organizations around Eu trying to help us with rehoming these wonderful animals and since the shelter opened it doors, more than 1000 dogs have found their forever homes across Europe!
